Hey,

thanks for your comment.
The last few days, I've been experimenting with EeeOS (the Debian one). It's funny, because there is not the same switching problem (except for grub). During the startup, it seems to change the labels of the devices according to the mountpoint. The device, that is mounted to / always gets the label "sda" (available at /dev/sda). BUT, `mount` says, it's "sdb", that is mounted to /, even if there is no /dev/sdb. That's so confusing! I'm still on it ...
I've never experienced the problem you mentioned. Maybe it has something to do with using an SDHC for /home. I use a german model of the 900a - so maybe there are differences between them, and that's why I didn't experience it.
But I read about your problem in another forum. They said you should add "rmmod snd_hda_intel" to the end of /etc/default/halt.
Does that work for you?

Kind Regards,
Mario

Thank you! Finally I found a person who noticed the eee 900's strange device assigning behavior. Like you I have ubuntu installed (latest ubuntu eee). I am suspecting (though this is a stab in the dark I admit) that this change of device for the internal SSD is causing another nuisance that I myself am experiencing and that I have seen described by other users but not seen solved. I have /home mounted on an SDHC and every time I start up I get an "unclean shutdown" message and a disk test. Could it be that the unmount process gets confused at shutdown and only unmounts one of the devices???? If I manually unmount my /home = /dev/sda1 (after having issued an init 1) the SSD changes to /dev/sda1. And so I should issue, in theory, ANOTHER umount /dev/sda1 if I wanted to umount my root. Could it be that something like this causes my problem? Would be super if I could understand what causes my problem!
