OpenLaszlo + Red5 = Voice chat

Written on May 9th 2008, 03:05 by sYnie

I have been working a long time with OpenLaszlo and Red5. As my commercial projects take months over moths to be developed, the last two days I just did something really basic. A small voice chat using OpenLaszlo and Red5. It’s for a freetime project and it’s planned to be integrated into Joomla. So maybe I will release this little app as a Joomla extention, later.
But now, I just want to show you, what you can do with OpenLaszlo and Red5 in a really short time:
Click here to visit the voice chat.

Features are so far:

  • Voice chat
  • Text chat
  • User management
  • Hardware selection
  • Nice look and feel
  • And so on …

Let me know, what you think about it. I hope I can show you the application integrated into Joomla as soon as possible.

    Hey there,

    thanks for your comment.
My first goal is to implement this tool into Joomla. After this, I planned to implement the same functionality into sychat (www.sychat.de). But this may take some time, because it’s a completely different system structure.
Don’t worry about your english. Mine is bad as well.

    Thanks certxg.
Yes, I think I will release it under the GPL as far as I can release it as an stable Joomla extension.

    Hey Brad,

I use OL and Red5 to record video and audio. But in my case, I store both on a server. Red5 is a perfect tool to do that. But I don’t know any possibility to record it to the local hard drive. Do you know any?

I am looking all over for a voice chat application. Seems you have solved the puzzle. Now – if you would just tell us HOW to use your little application or how to configure it so that it works?

    Thanks.

    Hey there,

unfortunately I can’t publish the source code yet, as I used some code, which I can’t publish. It is used in some commercial project and I don’t want to get into troubles. But it’s very easy to build such an application from scratch. There are tons of good tutorials for Red5 and OpenLaszlo out there.

Here you can get a basic idea of Red5:

And here is some stuff related to OpenLaszlo:

    I hope this helps.
